The most popular paid finance apps of 2016

How much money did you spend on your iTunes account last year?

Among Apple's top 10 most-downloaded apps for iPhones and iPaods around the world for the year were cult-hit games Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run, and Sweat with Kayla, a personal training app by Australian fitness personality Kayla Itsines.

But some apps can save you money, even the ones you pay a few dollars for.

As for money-related apps, the Money team used the website AppAnnie.com to track down Australia's most-downloaded paid personal finance apps for 2016.

1. Pennies

The number one downloaded paid personal finance app in Australia, Pennies is a budgeting app that was rated 4.5 stars by App Store users and costs $4.49.

2. HomeBudget with Sync

Expense tracker HomeBudget with Sync will set you back $7.99 and is rated 3.5 stars by users.

3. My Weekly Budget (MyWB)

MyWB is a 4.5-star rated personal budgeting app and costs just $1.49.

4. Splittr - travel cost splitting

At $2.99, Splittr is perfect for dividing costs among groups, like splitting the bill at a restaurant. It's rated 4.5 stars by App Store users.

5. Debt Manager

A debt tracking and consolidation app, Debt Manager has a 4.5-star user rating and will set you back just 99 cents to download and start budgeting.
